Privacy Policy

TypeScreen doesn’t collect names, contacts, or what’s on your screen. App usage and crash data are sent to the developer only if you allow it. There are no accounts or ads.

What’s Stored on iPad

  • Settings: the frame display mode and the position of the statistics panel.
  • Summaries of recent sessions and the log — for the Diagnostics screen.
  • A random device identifier: your handheld uses it to remember settings for this iPad.
  • The key for signing in to your handheld during installation — in the iPad keychain, on this device only.
  • Your answer to the analytics question. If you allowed analytics, also a random installation identifier and data that hasn’t been sent yet.

Settings, session summaries, the log, the device identifier, and analytics data are deleted together with the app. The key can remain in the iPad keychain after you delete the app, but it never leaves iPad.

What’s Transferred and Where

  • Video travels from your handheld to iPad over the cable.
  • iPad details — model, display, system and app versions, and the device identifier — go from iPad to your handheld so it can choose video settings. This data stays on your devices.
  • During installation, iPad looks for your handheld on your Wi‑Fi network and signs in to it. The app requests Local Network permission for this. It doesn’t interact with other devices on the network.
  • Update check. When the app opens, at most once every few hours, it downloads a small file from this website, typescreen.app, to find out whether this version still needs an update. The request contains no identifiers or personal data; the website’s hosting provider sees the device’s network address only to deliver the file. If the file can’t be loaded, the app works as usual.
  • The diagnostics report is created on iPad. Only you can send it, with the Share Report button.
  • Analytics and crash reports go to the developer only if you allow it — see below.

Analytics and Crash Reports

When you first open TypeScreen, it asks whether it can send the developer information about how the app works. Until you answer, or if you choose Don’t Allow, nothing is sent. You can change your answer at any time in Help → Share Analytics.

What’s sent:

  • How the first launch and installation on your handheld went: the installation steps and how long they took, how many handhelds were found on the network, the step where installation stopped, and the error code.
  • How the app is used: how long it was open and how long it waited for a handheld, which screens you opened — Help, Diagnostics, installation — and whether you used the buttons, statistics, and frame size while streaming.
  • The result and quality of each streaming session: handheld model and display, the TypeScreen version on it, codec, resolution, frame rate, duration, dropped frames, latency, stutters, why the session ended, and how warm iPad got.
  • Errors and warnings: the port didn’t open, the system ran low on memory, installation or streaming failed — with the last lines of the diagnostics log; if installation fails, also the last lines of your handheld’s response, without network addresses or user names; if the app crashes, a crash report.
  • iPad model, iPadOS and app versions, language, and country and city — the service determines them from your IP address and doesn’t store the address itself.

What isn’t sent: video, names, contacts, network addresses, or data from other apps.

Who processes it: Google. The data is linked to a random installation identifier, not to your name or an account. There’s no advertising and no tracking across apps.

Why: to find and fix bugs, understand where installation fails, and improve streaming.

How long it’s kept: events — no longer than 14 months; crash reports — 90 days.

How to opt out: turn off Share Analytics in Help. Collection stops, and the installation identifier and unsent data are deleted from iPad. Data that was already sent can’t be identified as yours, so it can’t be deleted separately: it’s deleted when the retention period ends.

TypeScreen on Your Handheld

TypeScreen runs only on your handheld and sends video over the cable. It accesses the internet only during installation and updates to download components.
