Describe what’s happening and attach a diagnostics report. It helps us understand the problem.

How to Send a Report

In TypeScreen on iPad, open Help → Diagnostics and tap Share Report. The report includes device models, system and app versions, summaries of recent sessions, and the log. You send the report yourself. The app doesn’t send it automatically.

No Video on iPad

The waiting screen shows the connection steps. Check them in order:

  1. The USB‑C cable is connected to both iPad and your handheld.
  2. iPad is unlocked. If it asks “Trust This Computer?”, tap Trust.
  3. Your handheld is in Game Mode: TypeScreen doesn’t work in Desktop Mode.
  4. TypeScreen is installed on your handheld. On iPad, open Help and tap Check. The app shows whether TypeScreen is installed and its service is running.

iPad Can’t Find Your Handheld During Installation

  • Your handheld has Developer Mode turned on.
  • iPad and the handheld are on the same Wi‑Fi network.
  • TypeScreen is allowed to use the local network on iPad: Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.

Turn Off Remote Access on Your Handheld

Pairing with iPad turns on remote access to your handheld: iPad uses it to install and update TypeScreen. Remote access stays on after you remove TypeScreen. If you don’t need it for anything else, turn it off:

  1. Switch your handheld to Desktop Mode from the Steam power menu.
  2. Open the Konsole terminal app and run sudo systemctl disable --now sshd. It asks for the password of the deck user; if you haven’t set one, set it first with passwd.
  3. To turn off Developer Mode, return to Game Mode and open Steam → Settings → System, then turn off Enable Developer Mode.

If you install TypeScreen from iPad again, pairing turns remote access back on.

Common Questions

Why not over Wi‑Fi? TypeScreen sends video only over the cable. Wi‑Fi is needed once — to install TypeScreen on your handheld.

Is there sound on iPad? No. Audio stays on your handheld.

Can I use touch controls? No. iPad works as a screen, and controls stay on your handheld.

Which handhelds work? Steam Deck and other handhelds running SteamOS in Game Mode, such as ROG Ally or Legion Go.
